Most grey banded argillite stones found at Riverton and Gemstone Beach are similar to Stone of the Day Twenty-Four – the bands are well defined, with a straight boundary between them. Stone 3 of Alert Level Two is different – the lines between bands are wavy, almost like a water colour painting where one colour “bleeds” into another.

The cropped close-up images show that lots of tiny specks of different colours are embedded in the stone. The last image below also shows the start of two tiny cracks that run across the stop of the stone.
