February-March 2022 Fossicking Trip: Stone of the Day #6, Unknown Grey Slope Point Stone

Today, Wednesday 16 February, I finally arrived at my base for the next two weeks, Riverton/Aparima. On my way here, I stopped off at Slope Point and spent just over two hours at a beach. I was looking mainly for rhyolite stones but also collected a few small pieces of black petrified wood. Today’s Stone of the Day is neither a rhyolite nor petrified wood but is a complex of differently oriented fragments and crystals:

Predominantly grey in colour, with some orange iron-oxide staining, the stone is actually a mish-mash of material:

The beach has a wide variety of stones:

Four other stones I found today illustrate only part of the variety of interesting stones on this beach and other nearby beaches:

When driving between Riverton/Aparima and Slope Point, you pass a lush green paddock containing an impressive bull sculpture. It appears to be made of plates of now-rusty iron. For the first time, I pulled over and took some photos:

The next Post in the Series, on Stone #7 from Gemstone Beach, is here. The first Post in this Series is here.
